What You Need To Know About Buying a Car Online
Buying used cars over the Internet is convenient—and it’s also a great place for scam artists looking to get their hands on your money.
In recent years, along with the increase in online car purchases, there’s been a huge rise in online fraud. According to the 2012 Internet Crime Complaint Center annual report, online auto fraud accounted for over 17,000 complaints, adding up to $64 million in consumer losses.
The scam usually begins with a used car being advertised on a respectable website – with some urgent-sounding reason for an incredibly low asking price. Before you decide on buying the type of car you want, get a quote on car insurance for the vehicle to see what it’s going to cost you.
Online car-buying scams are getting more sophisticated; increasingly, they are using website designs that look very similar to the legitimate companies’ websites, sometimes even displaying the legitimate companies’ logos.
Scammers are even going so far as to include 800 numbers and live-chat with unsuspecting buyers to provide more detailed information on the fake buyer- protection programs they play up. So, what can you do to prevent from becoming a victim? First, watch out for these red flags.
• Advertise cars at too-good-to-be true prices. • Want to move transactions from the original website to another site. • Claim that the transaction is guaranteed by PayPal, Craigslist, eBay, or other online marketplace. These sites do not guarantee that people using their services are genuine. • Refuse to meet in person or allow potential buyers to inspect the car ahead of time. Avoid Sellers Who:
• Ask for funds to be wired ahead of time. (Scammers use wire transfers because it’s the same thing as sending cash in the mail. Once the money is gone, it’s lost for good.) • Demand immediate payment due to some phony reason, such as military deployment or a tragic family emergency. • Require that the money be sent to a specific escrow account. You should choose the escrow service. Avoid Sellers Who:
Call the seller to establish phone contact. If the seller ignores details agreed to via e-mail or is unable to answer questions about their location or the car’s whereabouts, it’s probably a scam. Actions to protect yourself:
• Get your own CARFAX report (Scammers pull real CARFAX reports of real cars to represent fake listings. • Check with the National Insurance Crime Bureau. Their free database includes flood damage and other information about a car’s history. • Verify that the online escrow company you are using is legitimate. Check their Web site for spelling or grammatical errors – they may have been copied from real sites. Actions to protect yourself:
• Visit the escrow’s Web site directly, not through a link sent to you by the seller. • Research the escrow company through the Better Business Bureau. Actions to protect yourself:
Remember, the crooks cast a wide net for potential victims, sending out millions of e-mails in hopes that someone bites. Do your own research before you do any business online and make sure you know how much your car insurance will cost before you buy your new car.

Description Of Work:
Had a failed steering rack on my 1999 S70 Volvo replaced.  This was the third warranty replacement for a steering rack.  I paid extra to get a different grade of steering rack installed this time.

Reasonably well. They have honored their warranties, despite having to install a total of four steering racks in this car. The first I paid for as a repair, the next three have all been under warranty and they’ve covered it all – except this last time, we agreed to put in a higher end rack and I paid a portion of the add cost. This might sound negative, but I recently found out just how much above and beyond they had gone to try to diagnose what is causing these parts to fail and to try to prevent it. The previous trip in, they inserted a filter in the steering fluid line to see if particles of metal were coming from the power steering pump and maybe the cause of the damage to the racks. I hadn’t even realized they had done this until I recently contacted them about another issue.

They have never once tried to push the blame on me for these defective racks and it is clear that they are doing everything they can to help me get this old Swede back in running shape.
I like their approach, their pricing (compared to a Volvo dealership, anyway!) and their commitment to doing things right.

I have been driving this car for the past 10 days due to my personal car being out of service. Not only has this car been fun to drive, it has been very dependable and easy. I have a family of 5 and I move lots of “stuff” around all the time. It is a sharp looking car and really hits the road well.
I recommend that you come in for a test drive to see just how fun this car it.

**John and the entire crew at European Motor Cars are top notch, 100% honest and bend over backwards to complete the work on my cars when they say they will at the price quoted, never a surprise. Their prices are what I would describe as competitive or better with the rest of the independent shops in Northern Colorado and way more reasonable than the dealerships. I can’t say enough about their ability to diagnose and repair all of my VW’s quirks, from little jobs to big complicated ones. These guys will not let you down, kinda like a breath of “Fresh Air” in the automotive service industry!

**These Guys ROCK!!! I have bought three cars from them and they are all great cars! John is a great mechanic and is very knowledgeable. John also takes the time to answer all your questions. I strongly recommend these guys for all European cars!

***These guys are a great alternative to the dealers in the area. They often have saved me $100’s. Hard to say that about a dealer. Nothing fancy here…no customer area/waiting, no complimentary bagels or coffee. Could use a MUCH nicer facility to be a GREAT dealership. Otherwise, great place to take your Mercedes, SAAB, Volvo, BMW and VW. Just don’t try and sit or lean on anything…you could pick-up some 5 year old grease!

***In my 30 years of dealing with repair shops, this is the best shop. john is very knowledgeable and professional, and he stands by his work. i recommend European motor cars wholeheartedly.

Best Audi Mechanics
Folks if you have an Audi that’s off warranty, look no further than European Motors. I find these guys honest, does what’s best for you and not them, and try hard to save you money. Doing great work is the best part of their retinue. I went in with an unstoppable oil leak and what appeared to be a big hesitation in my transmission. The dealer I had always gone to would invariably recommend I tear something out and replace it with a new one. Last few examples was to get a new steering rack for $4,000, or get a new trans for $7,000. European Motors thoroughly steam washed my undercarriage and engine, found the source of the leak and fixed it. They did a transmission service and resolved my CVT issue. Total cost $400. I was starting to hate my Audi A4 2003 1.8T but now love it again.

Fantastic Group To Deal With
These guys were very professional, and provided service above expectation. Final bill came out way lower then I was quoted (this was a first from any shop I have ever visited) I will recommend this shop to all my friends and colleagues. I would have to say this is the most honest shop in town.

John and the team come through again
I had a check engine light that indicated a sensor malfunction. John and the team didn’t stop there in assessing the situation, they realized it wasn’t really a sensor, but a small leak in my turbo recycler valve. I didn’t have the time to leave it that day, so John informed me that it wasn’t a real mechanical problem and posed no real risk to the engine. He said I’d be fine waiting to get it fixed. The point is, these guys don’t start swapping out perfectly good parts to address what the computer says. They take it further, analyze the root cause and fix the right thing the first time. I’ve had dealers recommend replacing 2 week old O2 sensors. I’m confident these guys would never waste my money that way Take your vehicle here with confidence.

Breath of fresh air
I can’t say enough good things about my recent experience with European Motor Cars. As an owner of a 2001 Audi A4, I have had more repairs than I even care to recall. With that I’ve had many experiences at dealerships and automotive repair centers. The friendliness and terrific customer service I received from Bill and John was simply outstanding. Bill even went out of his way to do a price comparison for me without me even asking. Fair, friendly, dependable, and a repair center with integrity isn’t too easy to find but you will experience all of this at European Motor Cars. So long dealership repairs!

A diamond in the rough
It’s rare to find honest and knowledgable mechanics these days, but at European motor cars they follow through with both qualities and ice the cake with exceptional customer service as well. They took a look at my little Honda despite it not being of European make. Quick estimates, honest pricing, and reliable service: what more could one want in a mechanic?

I searched and read the reviews took after being fed up with the dealership’s lack of quality service. I took my vehicle in to John – he was upfront about the cost and took the time to explain the repairs. I have found a respectable service team! Thanks guys.

Superior Folks and Service
Writing reviews is not my highest and best talent, so this will be short. It IS an easy task, though. John and his guys extend the same courtesy, demonstrate the same interest, and provide the same service whether you take in a luxury car or a piece of junk (and I’ve done both). They are not only expert mechanics, but are customer service experts as well. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I would NOT recommend these folks to my worst enemies–but I would recommend them to my best friends (and have).
